Free Online Courses for Katrina-Hit Students

Students who had their education disrupted by the fury of Hurricane Katrina are being offered the chance to pursue their degrees online by the Sloan Consortium. This international association of colleges and universities, aided by a $1.1 million grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and in collaboration with the Southern Regional Education Board, is proposing to conduct free online courses through a special accelerated program. The University of Illinois reports:

The special program will feature a wide array of courses given by major universities and other Sloan Consortium members, to cater to the learning needs of students of any academic discipline at the community college, university and graduate levels.
