With nothing to impede the growth of online education, it is no wonder that even doctoral degrees are being earned online! The University of Phoenix, the largest online educational institution in the United States with over 14,000 students, is offering doctorates in four disciplines __ Business Administration, Management in Organizational Leadership, Education in Educational Leadership, and Health Administration, through its School of Advanced Studies. The programs are designed to be flexible so that students can continue to work while pursuing their doctorate ambitions.
The curriculum consists of 62 credits that are delivered in 8-week modules over a period of approximately three years, with a break of one week between classes. Group discussions are held at least for five days a week, at convenient day and night timings. It is mandatory for the students to attend residential workshops in Phoenix, Arizona for eight days in the first and third years, and three days during the second year. The workshops revolve around presentations, discussions and projects that are vital to the subject of study. As with regular doctoral programs, an independent dissertation at the end of the three years, is a compulsory requirement.
