Rural Students Go Online

The reach of online education has extended to rural areas such as Newfoundland and Labrador. More and more members of the school community in these places are signing up for online high school courses on offer by the Center for Distance Learning and Innovation. The introduction of online courses in these areas comes as a boon to youngsters who drop out of school. There are 138 schools in the province, and 106 of these will offer high school mathematics and English as online courses. CA CBC reports:

Students in some northern Labrador schools are taking as many as five high school courses online. However, the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation recommends that students take no more than three online classes at a time, because the workload can become too heavy.
